The island of Ugljan has 8 villages. All the villages are situated along the coast of eastern side of the island. The island is length: 22km; width up to 3,8 km. There are 7583 inhabitants on the island.
The island was first mentioned under its present name in 1325. It was densely populated during the Roman period. The present villages date back to the Middle Ages.Set high above Preko are the ruins of St .Michael fort (from 12th century).
The surface of this eternally green island is covered by olive groves,
idyllic coves and colorful fishing ports.
Preko has ferryboat connection with the town Zadar on the main land. |
